Skeleton Coast

Skeleton Coast National Park is an enormous but beautifull area.
If you have planned to pass through, you can get your permit at the gate, if you want to spent the night in Torra Bay, you will have to arrange accomodation and your permit in advance.
The roads in Skeleton Coast are mostly sand and salt, from a perfect condition. When you are driving from Korixas towards Skeleton Coast you have to cross a lot of riverbeds, when the rivers are dry there is no problem, good road conditions (also for 2wd), but if there is water, you definitly need a 4x4, ask for the local road condition before you leave for Skeleton Coast.

But you need to be warned when you go to Skeleton Coast, not all the tourists go to the Skeleton Coast, at some times it can be very quiet.
When we drove from Korixas to Henties Bay, we only saw one car in Skeleton Coast National Park.
You also need to adjust yourself when there is fog at the coast, while you where driving in temperatus around 30 degrees less than an hour ago, the temperature in the fog will drop very rapidly.

Accomodation
The only accomodation within the park is Torra Bay, but as said, this needs to be booked in advance, otherwhise Torra Bay is a no go area. Outsite the park there are not a lot of lodges available, in the area around Korixas and Henties Bay are plenty of lodges and hotels.

If Skeleton Coast is not an option for you, you can also drive via the brandberg towards Korixas, this is a good maintained gravelroad.
