Hardap Dam

The Hardap Dam is located near Mariental.
The dam has been build in the Fish River. If you mention Fish River, most people think about the Fish River Canyon, but also in Mariental you can find this important river.

The area around the dam, is a small game park. Most of the game park is on the opposit site then the resort, you will have to cross the dam to get to the game park. The game park is also accissible with your own car, even for 2wd's. There are a few steep slopes when you enter the gamepark, but this must not be a problem for 2wd's.
There are no special animals in the Hardap area, most animals you can find in any other game park.
But the scenery is amazing, you don't see much springbok with a large lake on the background.

Accomodation
The Hardap area is from the NWR, you can notice this from the old buildings. But the location of the bungalows, especialy the restaurant is truly magnificent. There are also campsites available.
The food in the restaurant is very good, a lot of choise and again, eating with such an amazing view!

The Hardap area is a great place to make a stopover if you are on your way from Windhoek to Fish River Canyon. You can stay half a day in the park, before setting off for your nest location.
