Dune 7

Dune 7 is the highest dune in the area between Swakopmund and Walvisbaai. This area full of dunes, is part of the Namib Dessert and is one the few desserts where a dessert and an ocean are connected to eachother. In this case the Namib Dessert connects to the South Atlantic Ocean.

The government made a picknick place nest to dune 7.
To get to dune 7, you need to take te road to Solitaire from Walvisbaai, just after the airport you have to turn left, from there just follow the signs across the railway.
But dune 7 is not the only place of interest in this area. The whole area is great to see. The best way to get a close look at the dunes is to take the C28, this is sandroad on the right hand site, just after you drive out of Swakopmund towards Windhoek. Before the C28 turns left, you need to turn right and cross the railway. From there you can follow one of the tracks towards the dunes.

Dune 7 is the best reachable dune. To walk up this dune, you need to take your time, it is very hard to walk these dunes.

The dunes in this area are like the dunes as you expect them to be.
The dunes are very popular for activities, you can go sand-boarden, quad-biken, the dunes are also often used for landscape scenario's for Hollywood movies.

Accomodation
The dunes are located between Swakopmund and Walvisbaai. In both places you can find plenty of accomodation. Because Swakopmund is a more touristical place, you will find most accomodation in this area.
