Shopping in New York

New York is one of the best cities in the world to go to if you like shopping. New York is known for the extreme posh and expensive shopping streets like 5th Aveneu, but this is maybe a little bit to expensive for some people. Other area's in New York, like Greenwich Village are excellent places to go to, if you like shopping but your budget is limited. On this page, we will provide you some basic information about some of the shopping area's in New York.

Soho, Greenwich Village and North of Little Italy (Nolita)
These three area's are an excellent place if you like small, trendy shops and lots of boutique's in combination with the designer shops. The best shops are to be found in the smaller alley's.

Meatpacking District
The meatpacking district is the former district where the animals where slaughterd. You can still find some of the old warehouses here. But the meatpacking district has, in the recent year's, changed to a trendy area. You can find many designer shops, and even so many excellent restaurants, maybe some of the best in town.

Madison Avenue - 5the Avenue - 57th Street
These three streets are one of the most expensive streets to go for shopping in the world. All the major designers are located around these three streets. If you like shopping you can and may not miss this place, you can't say that you have been in New York if you haven't been to 5th Aveneu.

Macy's
One of the best known shops in the world is Macy's. Macy was founded in 1857, but only after the founder died, Macy's started to grow radiply, soon the store expanded to 11 buildings. In 1922 Macy's moved to the present location between W34st. and Broadway and 7th Ave.
Nowaday's Macy's is a mulitiple story building where you can find everything you need, from designer outfits to sportsclothing.

Opening times
Almost all the shops are opened 7 day's a week from 10.00 till (sometimes late) in the evening. Enough time for you to explore the shopping districts of New York.
