Brooklyn Bridge

In 1883 the Brooklyn Bridge was designed by father and son Roebling. They wanted to built the most beautifull bridge of the whole world. If they succeeded, you need to decide your self. But for sure, it is a special bridge.

The brigde was built to connect Manhatten with Brooklyn. The bridge crosses the River Hudson and has a total lenght of 1834 meter. The span between the two towers is 486 meter. In the time the bridge was built, this was enough to get the titel of the longest suspension bridge in the world.
Apart from the two towers, the bridge is almost completely made of steel. Between the roads, you can find a pedestrian walway in the centre of the bridge.

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the few old bridges left in New York. Most bridges have been replaced. But the Brooklyn Bridge is still serving as one of the most important bridges in New York. Every day the bridge has to deal with an incredible amount of transit, but on some day's the bridge became even more important. For example on the day the Twin Towers collapsed, all the subway's closed, the bus service stopped, traffic came to a hold, but the Brooklyn Bridge was still open, a lot of pedestrians used the Brooklyn Bridge to cross the river to get to Brookly.

It is a wonderfull experience and thus highly recommended to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and get an amazing view of the skyline of New York.
