Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square is a large square in the middle of London. The square is named after the battle of Trafalgar. This was a battle between a Frensh-Spanish armada and a British armada. The Frensh fleet was in command of Napoleon and the British fleet in command of Admiral Nelson. Sadly enough, Admiral Nelson died during the battle, but luckely enough, the British fleet defeated the armada of Napoleon, and ruled the oceans' for decades.
Today we can see the statue of Admiral Nelson at Trafalgar Sqaure. His statue is only 5.5 meters tall, but rests on a foot of more than 50 meters.
Trafalgar Sqaure was first built in 1845. In 1868 the statue of Admiral Nelson was placed in the centre of the square.
There are some special building around the square. You can find several embassies very closeby, but for tourists more important, bordering the square, you will find the Nation Gallery with an incredible amount of artwork.
You can also find Buckingham Palace very closeby, you only have to walk via the Mall and you will see Buckingham Palace in the distance in front of you.
