Hyde Park

Hyde Park is one of the few official Royal parks. Hendrik VIII declared the former park as a privat hunting area, and since it has always been appointed to the Royal Family. Before the park was in control of the Royal Family, the park belonged to the Westminter Abbey.
The park opened for the public in 1637.

In 1733 the park has had a major reconstruction, for example the Serpentine Lake was created in this reconstruction. Almost a century later, a bridge was build which devided the Serpentine into two parts. But most of the park stayed the same.

Hyde Park is the perfect place to relax and do some outdoor activities. If you go to Hyde Park you will see a lot of people from London just strolling through the park.
Sunday mornings you can also find the Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park. This is a small place at the edge of Hyde Park where everybody can share their opinion with the public. You can find the Speakers' Corner in the north-east corner of the park, near Marble Arch.
You can also find Prinses Diana's monument in the park, this is a fountain in an oval ring of stone.
Hyde Park is also used to have large pop concerts, for example Live 8 in 2005, which attracted more than 200.000 people.
