History
There are different sorts of crazy theories about London, there are people who think that London already excisted many years BC. But archeologists never have found any proof for those theories, althoug, they found agricultural ancient crafts at the location which is known as London in the present world.
So lets start the history in facts that we do know for sure.
In 43 the Romans started a civilian settlement called Londinium. After a few years, Londinium grew and became a city. In the second century, Londinium was the largest city of the Roman empire.
In the fifth century the Romans left Londinium, Londinium went into a rapid decline and at the end of the century, Londinium had been practically abandoned.
After decades of decline, London was in control of Alfred the Great.
In the following years' London changed from an abonded city to a rapidly growing city. Power and control came back to the city and national and international investors settled themselves in the city.
London had grown till 50.000 civillians in the 14th century.
In the 17th century, a new centre was started just outsite the excisting city, we now know that place as Westminster. From early on, the control was to be found in Westminster, even nowadays we can find the British Parliament in Westminster.
During the 17th century, London was still growing, and grew to a major city with 450.000 civillians. But this was coming to a complete hold, or even a rapid decline: in 1665 London had to deal with a major outbreak of the Plague, in history books reffered as 'The Great Plague'. The plague caused death to more than 70.000 civillians in London.
Almost one year later, London had to deal with an even bigger catastrophe: 'The Great Fire of London'. The fire kept going for three days and ruined almost the entire city. But luckely enough, the fire ment the end of the plague.
Many buildings (more than 60%) was lost in The Great Fire of London, also the St. Pauls, which was build in 7th century. In the following years the city had to be rebuilded. Architects also made new plans for the St. Pauls Cathedral, which has been rebuilded between 1678 and 1708. For many years the St. Pauls Cathedral dominated the skyline of London.
At this time the City of London was becoming the world's leading financial centre, superseding Amsterdam in primacy.
Until the Second World War, London was a stable city, but in World War II London was badly damaged. The German's bombed the city and many were killed or injured and many building were destroyed.
In the present times, London has grown to a large city with more than 7 million civillians. But government and municipallity have agreed that London must not grow any further into the country. One of the major problems they want to tackle is the rapid decline of some of the London area's. In the past year's some of the area's have restored.
The latest historical developments in London have been the terrorist attacks of 2005, where terrorists planted bombs in the London underground and in a London buss. More than 50 people were killed and more than 700 were injured.
