Shopping in Cape Town

The city centre of Cape Town has no shopping streets as we know them in European and North American cities. The shops in Cape Town can be found in various shopping centers.

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront is a recently built shopping center directly next to the old harbor. You can find everthing you will need, from supermarkets till tourist shops, from cinema's till diamant sellers.
V&A Waterfront is also the perfect place to go to if you want a good diner, you can find many different restaurants, with good quality food at the old harbor. Because of the many tourist who visit the V&A Waterfront, don't expect the shops and restaurants to be cheap.
V&A Waterfront is also the place where you can book a lot of activities, for example the Robben Island ferry leaves from the V&A Waterfront.

Canal Walk
The Canal Walk can be found north of the city centre, just next of the N1. The architecture is truly magnificent, at least if you like that kind of architecture.
Most important differences with the V&A Waterfront is that the Canal Walk is much more used by the locals, and thus the prices are not that high.

Cavendish Square

Just south of the city centre is a huge shopping mall, mostly used by the locals. In Cavendish Square, you can find many pittoresque boutiques and exclusive shops.
Also in this shopping mall, the prices are way cheaper than the prices in V&A Waterfront, and thus you will find al lot of locals doing their shoppings.

Opening times:
All the Cape Tonian shops are opened from Monday till Firday from 8 A.M. till 5 P.M. and in the weekend till 1 P.M. In V&A Waterfront the shops have different opening times, because of the amount of tourists visiting the V&A Waterfront.

Greenmarket Square and St. George's Mall
If you don't like to spent your time in large shopping centers, you can also spent your time in Greenmarket Square and St. George's Mall.

Greenmarket Square is street market in the city centre of Cape Town. Most of the goods in Greenmarket Square is not more than junk, but sometimes you find what you are looking for, just for a bargain.

St. George's Mall is a small shopping mall in the city centre close to the train station. You can find various shops, mostly used by the locals.

Simonstown
Have you spent enough time in Cape Town and do you want something really different, bring a visit to Simonstown. This small coastal town offers a lot of pittoresque shops.
Simonstown is also known for the large amount of pinguins strolling down the beaches and because of the easy acces to the Cape of Good Hope National Park.
