Cape of Good Hope
In 1488 the first Portuguese explorer, Bartolomeus Diaz, sailed around the Cape. A few years later, Johan II of Portugal gave the Cape it's name: Cape of Good Hope, because the discovery of the Cape, made the shippingroute from Europe to the West-Indisch easier to be realised.
The Cape of Good Hope is often seen as the most southern point of Africa, but the truth tells different. almost 200 kilometers more to the east, Cape Agulhas is the most soutern point of Africa. However, Cape of Good Hope is the most South-Western point of Africa.
Cape of Good Hope is located close to Cape Town, so easy to be visited by tourists. The Cape is a large national park where you can practice several activities, like hiking, mountainbiking and several other outdoor activities.
