Many years ago, the Apartheid has been abandoned by the government. However, the many years of discrimination and suppression are not yet forgotten.

But this does not mean that you must not visit Cape Town, the opposite is true: you should visit Cape Town, but when you bring a visit to Cape Town, you should also know why there is so much crime and poverty around town.
