Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Família is a large Roman Catholic basilica in Barcelona.
Construction began in 1882 and is still in progress. Antoni Gaudí, the architect of the Sagrada Familia, dedicated his life to the Sagrada Familia. He lived on the buildingsite. Eventually he had to pay this with his life, he died in 1926 when a cablecar hit him.

Antoni Gaudí knew he was not going to see the basilica finished, therefor he made several very detailled drawings and models, so the future architects knew how he wanted the basilica to become.
Every part of the design of La Sagrada Família is rich with Christian symbolism. A total of 18 tall towers are called for, representing in ascending order of height the Twelve Apostles, the four Evangelists, the Virgin Mary and, tallest of all, Jesus Christ.

The building proces of the Sagrada Familia was completely dependent of dontations, so the proces was very slow. Gaudí is said to have joked, "My client is not in a hurry." Nowaday's the building proces is slightly faster than before, to visit the basilica, you will have to pay an entrance fee. With this entrance fee, the building proces is partly paid.

Recently, the building companies anounced that they suspect the building proces to be finished in 2026. BUt a lot of people have doubts if the basilica will ever be finished. The first parts of the basilica that has been built are already in need of renovation, so it is likely that the builders will alway's have to stay on the premmisses.

As said, you can visit the Sagrada Familia, the entrance fee will cost you around € 8,- But keep in mind that the Sagrada Familia is a major tourist attraction for Barcelona, so it is possible that it will be bussy.
